We suggest a good spot for crabbing. Ask friends or locals where to go. We like crabbing off of the inside mouth of a jetty while the tide is going out. This way the crabs are pulled out of the bay towards the jetty but not all of the way into the ocean. A wharf or a pier is sometimes a good spot as well. You can also ask your fish and game officer where are good spot to go crabbing is.

Connect your rope to the crab trap.  The insert your bait inside of the trap.  We like
black cod heads for bait but any of the above will usually work well too.  Throw the trap into the water and wait.  If you see your rope moving at all it's probably because the crabs are attacking your trap to try and get at the bait.  Wait a little longer.

In about 20 to 30 minutes you can pull in your trap to see if you caught anything. Hopefully you will have a few crabs in your trap.  If not try moving your trap 50 feet or so in either direction.

You can set up as many crab traps as your local fish and game guidelines will let you to catch even more crabs. Make sure you toss the traps out as far as possible so the lines don't get tangled up and hopefully you can catch as many crabs as possible as it's lots of fun and they sure are good eating.

Once you have caught some crabs when removing them from the trap be sure to grab it from the back of the shell.  This way it can't pinch you with it's claws.  You then want to measure the shell of the crab to make sure it is within legal limits before tossing it in your bucket as you can be fined if the crab is too small. Also, make sure that if the crab is a female that you are allowed to keep females before tossing it in your bucket as most areas do not allow you to keep females as they need to reproduce so you have crabs for the next year.

Once you have the crab in the bucket it is a good idea to flush the bucket out once in awhile to keep the water moving so there is plenty of oxygen in the bucket so the crab can breathe properly.
